Miss Bhutan 2010

WHY MISS BHUTAN? Objectives …

Miss Bhutan Beauty Pageant is founded by Karma Tshering (filmmaker) under the banner of MPC bhutan entertainment (MPC) in 2008. As we all know that Millions of people all over the world are interested in the international beauty pageants and watch to see who represents each nation. None from Bhutan has ever been seen. As such, Miss Bhutan Beauty Pageant will provide a contemporary forum for Bhutanese girls and women. The beauty pageant aims to provide the young Bhutanese women the same kind of opportunities as their counterparts in other parts of the world including education, travel and cross-cultural experiences. The young Bhutanese women deserve the chance to be seen as part of their traditional culture and also beyond their culture, as contemporary, modern young women. One of our biggest goal is to advance and support today’s young Bhutanese women. The contestants who become part of the Miss Bhutan display those characteristics in their everyday lives, both as individuals who participate in the competitions to advance their careers, personal and humanitarian goals, and as women who seek to improve the lives of others. The contestants must behave in a manner befitting the title of Miss Bhutan.

BEAUTY FOR A CAUSE

Because many people admire and aspire to be a beauty queen, we believed that beauty queens would be a good and effective advocate of worthy causes. International beauty contests draw millions of viewers all over the world. To have representation in events like these, will also create an awareness about Bhutan, as an independent and the only Mahayana Buddhist Kingdom in the world that live by the unique principal of Gross National Happiness (GNH). Social and community service is one of the top agendas of Miss Bhutan Pageant. The winner of Miss Bhutan 2010 will be involved in social services like environment, youth and women, HIV AIDS etc. In future, we will be closely working with NGOs and related organizations in and outside Bhutan and help support the youth issues and the underprivileged girls and women of Bhutan.

NEED FOR ROLE MODELS FOR BHUTANESE WOMEN

Bhutanese girls are like girls everywhere; they need role models of women who have grown into skilled, educated, articulate productive members of society. At the present time, the role models for women are strong, but few. There is always the need for more women who to emerge as role models for the younger generation, as spokes people for their culture. And there is a need for these women to represent a variety of professions, attitudes, skills and interests.

PROMOTION OF AGE-OLD TRADITIONAL COSTUME

Miss Bhutan will promote our age-old costumes during the contest. Today’s youths are very much influenced by the western lifestyle and prefer to wear western fashioned clothes, some of which are very vulgar. Promotion of our indigenous textile will be one of the areas we will be focusing at in future.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CONTESTANTS

Miss Bhutan Organization will help find and create job opportunities not only to the finalists but also to all the 20 shortlisted contestants. This is done because we can understand the sacrifices they will be making to take part in the Miss Bhutan Pageant. Since Miss Bhutan Pageant will be an annual event, we feel that it is important to guide and assist the contestants not only during the course but also thereafter. Helping to create employment opportunities for the contestants would be one of the best ways to help our young women in Bhutan.
