Director’s Profile

Karma Tshering is one of the first Bhutanese artists trained in the field of filmmaking from the Asian Academy of Film & Television in India. The promoter has also undergone courses in Audiovisual Technology in Japan and Post Production courses in USA.

Some of the Bhutanese feature films directed by the promoter are Jigdrel, Rangdol Yangdon, Chepai Bu, 6 boys, Lhadha-Gau, Muensel etc. Besides film direction, the promoter was also involved in making several documentary films for the then Ministry of Health and Education, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, The National Assembly of Bhutan, Bank of Bhutan Limited etc.

The promoter is the recipient of the first “Best Film Director Award” during the first Bhutanese Film Festival/Award Ceremony held in the country in 2001 for the film CHEPAI BU followed by another “Best Film Director Award” in 2003 for the film 6 BOYS.

To further enhance skills in filmmaking, the promoter also worked in a Bollywood film project, “Badhai Ho Badhai” starring Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Keerty Reddy.

The promoter has also worked for “The Dragon’s Gift” Project, an artistic and cultural exchange program between the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan and Honolulu Academy of Arts, USA with Core of Culture Dance Preservation, USA on a 5-year (2004-2008) dance research and preservation project as its Director of Production.

The promoter is the founder/organizer of Bhutan’s first beauty pageant show, Miss Bhutan Pageant. The promoter has also founded and published Bhutan’s first women’s magazine titled YEEWONG on September 2009.

The promoter is the Vice President of the Motion Pictures Association of Bhutan (MPAB).
